About Michael

I’m the Rev. Dr. Michael W. DeLashmutt — priest, theologian, and maker. My work explores how faith is lived in a technological world, at the intersection of theology, creativity, and culture.

I currently serve as Senior Vice President and Dean of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at General Theological Seminary in New York City, where I also serve as a professor of theology. In addition to teaching and scholarship, for over a decade, I have held senior leadership positions in higher education in both the US and the UK, guiding institutions through seasons of significant change and innovation.

My forthcoming book, A Lived Theology for Everyday Life: Encounter God through Work, Play, and Culture (Cascade Press), explores how ordinary practices open us to God’s presence. I am also completing a new book on theology and technology, focusing on how the Churches can make sense of mission and ministry in an age of AI.

With my wife Julia, I co-founded Potter and the Priest Studio, a community pottery studio in New York City that brings together craft, creativity, and spiritual practice. Making, for me, is both theological method and spiritual practice: a way of shaping ideas, vessels, and communities.

Through speaking, consulting, and writing, I help churches, seminaries, and nonprofits imagine faithful ways to engage the challenges and possibilities of our technological age.
